ICE Detention Release Paths

No official source reviewed identified Harnett County Detention Center as an ICE detention facility, and no separate ICE facility was established in Harnett County. Immigration custody remains relevant because a person can leave Harnett criminal custody through a transfer to ICE. The sheriff's custody ends, but ICE custody starts. Calling that event a release into Harnett County would be inaccurate.

An ICE custody change can also occur after time in federal or state custody. “Released by ICE” may refer to a change under immigration conditions, while removal from the United States is not a community release in Harnett. The exact agency wording matters. Use “transfer to ICE” when the departing county record names immigration custody, unless an official source affirmatively records release into the community.

A biographical search depends on exact name details and country of birth. Spelling, order, punctuation, or multiple name forms can affect the result. Recent transfers may not appear at once, and some people, including certain minors, may fall outside the public tool. For those reasons, a no-match response is not release proof. Save the query time and exact search form used without publishing private identifiers.

1. Obtain the county release or transfer entry and note the receiving agency.
2. Use the A-number and country of birth when lawfully known.
3. Otherwise search the exact biographical details accepted by the live locator.
4. Read the returned location or instruction without adding broader meaning.
5. Contact the relevant ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations field office if no reliable match appears.
6. Recheck the criminal custodian and court case when the transfer itself is uncertain.

The locator is designed to find a current detainee. It is not a historical list of ICE releases, so a past custody question may require direct agency records and the preceding custodian's transfer entry.

ICE Detainee Record Fields

ICE's public locator provides a narrower view than a county booking record or NCDAC offender history. It answers where a covered current detainee may be located or tells the user what contact step to take. It does not supply the full criminal case, county release disposition, or a complete immigration timeline.

The sheriff's entry and the ICE response should be read together. The first marks the Harnett County boundary. The second addresses immigration custody. A court docket may explain why the criminal case changed, but state eCourts does not decide or document the whole federal immigration matter.

ICE Detention Records Contact

When the Online Detainee Locator does not resolve a supported ICE transfer, contact the appropriate ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations field office. Have the A-number available if it is lawful to use, along with the full name, country of birth, transfer date, and prior custodian. Do not publish the A-number or full birth date. The Harnett County jail's Current Confinements search reports present county custody. Its last-24-hours PDF reports recent incarcerations, not releases. A name missing from both sources may have been released, transferred, affected by a name mismatch, or moved outside the rolling report window. Neither screen proves ICE involvement. The recorded release or booking entry must supply that link.

Call with the booking number, confinement date, and court docket. Ask whether Harnett released the person into the community or transferred the person to another authority. If staff identify ICE or an immigration detainer, ask for the transfer date and receiving-agency wording. A detainer is a notice or request from another authority that may lead to custody; its presence alone does not prove that a transfer was completed.

Build a timeline when several records overlap. Note the sheriff departure, ICE locator query, any BOP or USMS event, and each agency's stated date. That prevents one agency's word “released” from being treated as a finding about every other agency.

Two Lillington Release Systems

Harnett's two best-known custody buildings are not ICE facilities. The Sheriff's Office operates Harnett County Detention Center. NCDAC operates Harnett Correctional Institution, a 988-capacity state prison whose history reaches back to a county prison assumed by the state after the 1931 Conner Bill. Their close location and shared Harnett name can lead to the wrong locator even before ICE is considered.

If the person was at the county jail, seek the sheriff's release or transfer entry. If the person was at Harnett Correctional Institution or another state prison, read OPUS. Only move to ICE's locator when a record, case fact, or reliable source supports immigration custody. The absence of an ICE facility in the county does not rule out a transfer elsewhere, but it does mean there is no verified local ICE address to visit.

Verify ICE Release Events

A past ICE release usually requires more than a current-locator search. Preserve the exact county transfer record, any ICE response, and the date each source was checked. If ICE confirms that detention ended, ask what public record identifies the event and whether conditions applied. Avoid translating an immigration custody change into a statement about the criminal case, sentence, or all other holds.
